The Kairos House

A home for families who travel to Guatemala City while a loved one receives medical treatment: a safe bed, three warm meals a day, and people who become family.

For almost a decade, the Valdez family served the families of patients at Roosevelt Hospital in Guatemala City, praying for a home where they could care for them more fully and with greater dignity.

In God’s perfect timing (kairos), in the fall of 2003, that prayer was answered: a home was found just four blocks from the hospital.

Many guests travel hundreds of miles to seek treatment for a loved one, often without knowing anyone in the city. The house gives them a safe place to sleep and three warm meals a day. And it gives them more than that: support for the next day from the caretakers of the home, from other families walking the same road, and from the prayers of the churches and friends who stand with Kairos.

“Kairos House provides a family for these people by becoming their family.”
